There are plenty of places in Maine where the wind blows strong and steady, but only a few where the fortunate combination of geographical and man-made factors come together to create a natural fit for a wind project. Stetson Mountain, Jimmey Mountain and Owl Mountain in Washington County- the locations for Stetson Wind's two wind power arrays, Stetson I and Stetson II- are among those places. And wind power, unlike other forms of energy production (such as coal and oil), doesn’t pollute the air or water. This means that Stetson Wind will help provide clean power for Maine and New England, while allowing landowners to continue using their land.

Here are just a few reasons Why Stetson Works:

Ideal locations:
The long, low ridgelines of Stetson, Jimmey and Owl Mountains present many good locations for turbines to capture the wind. The winds are consistently strong in this area, while the ridge, traditionally used for logging, has already been partially cleared.

Reliable wind resource:
Multiple years of wind data collected on site.

Set back from homes:
Currently there are no homes closer than 2,500 feet to the project site.

Convenient access:
Access from Stetson Wind to Maine and the rest of New England’s electricity market.

Already cleared:
Site has historically been used for logging.

Uses existing roads:
Wind turbines will be located adjacent to existing roads.

Substation already exists:
The existing substation (Keene Road substation) requires virtually no new construction.
