Hear what environmentalists are saying about clean, renewable wind energy

The clean, sustainable energy generated by Stetson Wind I has the capacity to produce over 167 million kWh annually of electricity, enough to power about 23,500 homes—or almost all of Washington County—every year. Every megawatt produced means less reliance on foreign sources.

The expansion of the Stetson Project, will generate an additional 60 million kilowatts of energy – enough to power more than 8,500 homes.

Safe for our lakes and rivers:
Unlike conventional methods of electricity production, wind power uses little water and emits no mercury, a leading cause of contamination to our rivers and lakes.

No pollution:
Wind energy produces zero air or water pollution.

Reduced use of climate-changing fossil fuels: A traditional fossil fueled generation facility producing an equivalent amount of electric energy would consume over 331,000 barrels of oil per year or over 89,000 tons of coal per year.

No greenhouse gas emissions: Based on data recently published by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (U.S. EPA) Emissions and Generation Resource Integrated Database (E-GRID), traditional generation sources producing an equivalent annual amount of electric energy would emit greenhouse gases (GHG) consisting of nearly 76,000 short tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) and 80 tons of nitrogen oxide (NOx). To put this in perspective, 76,000 tons of CO2 is equivalent to the annual emissions of over 13,000 cars or over 9,000 SUVs. In addition, equivalent energy production from traditional sources would produce 190 tons of sulfur dioxide (SO2). Both SO2 and NOx cause acid rain.
